Christ’s church, a missionary work dedicated to spreading the Gospel message throughout Ghana, West Africa

Christ’s Church at Bomso is a missionary work with a central location in Kumasi, Ghana West Africa. Jeff and Sherrie Hostetter have dedicated over 30 years of their lives to spreading the gospel message throughout Ghana. They have truly made Ghana their home, learning the various languages, and establishing a permanent residence in Kumasi, the second largest city in Ghana. Their mission and message is to preach Christ in Glory, both to this generation and the next.

Evangelism is the center of God’s work at Christ’s Church at Bomso. God’s glorious gospel will be spread through one on one evangelism. In the book of Luke, chapter 10, Jesus sent out 70 of His disciples to spread the news of the coming kingdom. Jesus parting words were “Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” Matthew 28:18-20. This is how the God’s great and glorious message is being spread today throughout the nation of Ghana. The Hostetters have trained up men to go out and evangelize, start assemblies and Christian schools in the different regions of Ghana. Many personal Bible studies take place every week, with Ghanaians teaching and spreading the good news of Christ in you, the hope of Glory. A yearly family camp bring in saints from all across the country, some traveling by bus, some by bicycle to hear God’s Word and enjoy the encouragement and fellowship. Attendance generally tops 400, and is growing each year.

Bomso Christian Academy is a Monday through Friday educational ministry dedicated to giving the children a solid foundation in reading, writing and arithmetic. The goal of this is that they would grow up to be productive soul winners. An average Ghanaian has only 4 years of schooling, the equivalent of a 3rd grade education. At the Bomso Christian Academy, children are taught using the ACE system, and graduate with the equivalent of a 12 year American education, with the ability to read and write in English. This gives the children the ability to read and understand God’s word, and as they grow be an active part of the work that God is doing in Ghana. Part of the goal of the educational ministry is to educate the Ghanaians so they would be the ones doing the work, spreading the gospel throughout their own country.

Physical Fitness

Ghana is not a country for the weak at heart. Yearly temperatures stay in the constant range of 70 to 90 degrees Fahrenheit with high humidity. Because of the warm and humid climate, there is a constant threat of malaria and other life threatening diseases. There is also the constant battle of physical exhaustion from the heat and humidity. To deal with these and other daily struggles, Jeff Hostetter has established a physical fitness ministry. The majority of the staff and many of the saints take part in daily workouts that include running and weightlifting. The school has annual weightlifting and track events. This teaches the kids and adults how to have and achieve personal goals, as well as strengthening their bodies to deal with the physical trials of living in Ghana. This physical training pays off spiritually, helping the saints to learn to have great attitudes and learning how to buffet their bodies for Christ.
